State: Virginia

Park: Leesylvania State Park

Age: 25

Bio: I studied Biology in undergraduate school, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in that field (minor in natural resources), and my future goals include pursuing either marine science or animal behavior in graduate school. I attended school in Idaho and afterwards spent a couple years in Utah. These were both wonderful locales for exploring the rich natural resources of our state and national parks. During the summer living in Salt Lake City, UT, I loved being able to drive just 20 minutes away to venture out on pristine hiking trails. My love of home and family (and extreme homesickness) called me back to Virginia. I am especially fond of beaches and I actually like humidity! I have a wonderful husband and a shih tzu named Sgt. Pepper.

Amy's Updates

I Am A State Park Ambassador Because: I love the great outdoors and am particularly passionate about wildlife. I became a State Parks Ambassador because it gives me a great excuse to get out and explore the parks of my home state! I also love shooting photos and videos, so it gives me a chance to combine multiple interests.

Schools Attended: Brigham Young University-Idaho, Stafford High School, Ramstein High School

First State Park: In recent memory, Harriman, Idaho

Favorite State Park: John Pennekamp Coral Reef, Florida

Park I Am Dying To Visit: Bahia Honda, Florida and False Cape, Virginia

I've Visited State Parks In: Florida, Idaho, Maryland, New York, Utah, Virginia

Coolest Thing I've Seen In Parks: Moose. My husband once encountered a cow and her calf in Harriman SP, ID and she charged! Luckily, he was biking and was able to make it away safely.

Interests: Animals, science, SCUBA, travelling, hiking, hula dancing, figure skating, reading

Music Played At My Campfire: Classic rock: the Beatles, CCR, Led Zeppelin

What Not To Miss In My State's Parks: The historical significance of Virginia's parks, paired with natural splendor

Who I Would Go On A Hike With If I Could: Charles Darwin (that is, if he were still alive!)

This Sums It All Up For Me: Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing.
