State: South Carolina
Age: 27
Bio: I grew up in Montgomery County, MD, where I spent most of my childhood focused on family, school, and friends. When I was 16, I went to the University of Miami for an opportunity to study marine science at a university as a high school student. I spent my college years at Coastal Carolina University, SC studying Marine Science where I discovered that I had a passion towards the study of environmental issues. My last semester at school, I devised a petition with the help of a remarkable professor, Dr. Abel, to prevent the destruction of an area of trees on our campus. Also, during my last year, I interned at an Environmental Education Center where I educated elementary children on ecology and recreational outdoor activities such as kayaking in the swamp. Through both of these experiences I truly knew I belong outdoors ? When I graduated, I moved to FL, where I continued my passion for the outdoors through several volunteer organizations, my favorite being The Sea Turtle Preservation Society. Last year, I found myself back in SC, where I hope to begin a career in the field of environmental preservation.
I Am A State Park Ambassador Because: Being a state park ambassador I am presented with the opportunity to do what I love and share it with others. Spending time outdoors, with nature, is a beautiful thing and yet so many people take it for granted and don't appreciate what it provides for us. I feel that if I can help publicize the benefits and attractions that have been provided by the state parks, more people will come enjoy the natural attractions. What I hope to accomplish as a State Park Ambassador is to create a perspective for people to learn about their environment, what it provides, and learn to respect our beautiful earth, which is what the State Parks have set out to preserve.
