Watts Towers

by Rachel Wood

Did you ever read that kid’s picture book about Watts Towers? Did you, like me, not think that they were something from real life?

Well, they are! In the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, Simon Rodia built these amazing towers out of cement and old pieces of broken pottery. Who would have thought that these incredible spires, some reaching over 99 feet, could be tucked away in a small neighborhood?

The towers were made a California Historical Landmark in 1990.
