Antelope Island and Jr Ranger
Kyle and I went to Antelope Island last weekend to help out with the Animal Tracking Junior Ranger program and do some 'splorin' of the Island.
First, the Junior Ranger program was extremely well done by Park Naturalist Wendy Wilson. She was fun, entertaining, knowledgeable and great with kids! We both enjoyed learning about animal tracks and habitats.
The first photos are of the indoor presentation then hunting for tracks outside.
The middle two are of an interesting activity Wendy had us do: disect owl vomit (aka owl pellets). Seriously- these dried pellets are regurgitated leftovers that wouldn't digest easily- fur from small rodents along with bones from those same rodents. At first I made a few disgusted faces as I was pulling apart dried barf, but it turned out being a pretty cool activity. You can see the bones I pulled out of one pellet in the plastic bag in one of the photos below. The kids actually embraced the activity!
The last set of pictures were taken on the White Rocks Loop Trail (7.5 miles). Yes, that is a small herd of buffalo. Buffalo are prominent on the Island. The park even has a bison round up every fall that the public can participate in. How sweet would that be?
Antelope Island is large and has plenty of awesome opportunities including horseback riding, hiking, camping and a very popular activity at the Island- biking.

Over and Out.
