My Father's Day Photography Hike

To celebrate Father’s Day a little early this year, I took my dad over to First Landing State Park where we were able to take a little time to relax and hike some of the park’s trails. We both love to spend our time in the outdoors, especially with some camera gear in our hands. It’s a lot of fun for us to talk about photography, practicing different lighting and composition techniques, and just bouncing ideas off of each other. Sometimes it can be a little lonely photographing nature with no one else around, so having the companionship of each other throughout the day was really nice.

Usually we are both so busy with life and work that we rarely get to spend quality time together. Trips like this give us the ability to step back and relax so that we can enjoy each other’s company. We both feel a little more free from regular obligations during our mini vacations and this allows us to be able to laugh, talk, and bond. Some of our favorite memories are from opportunities like this provided by the parks.

We hiked along Bald Cyprus trail where we saw plenty of turtles sunning themselves on logs below the boardwalk. They made very good test subjects for pictures since they weren’t interested in running away from their perches.

Finally, we tried to practice our hand at photographing the Cyprus trees, but we both came to the agreement that we just cannot capture just how gorgeous the sunlight looked as it shone through the leaves and reflected on the water.

Dad and I both are looking forward to having another day together where we can both relax and spend some more time being able to just wander the trails.
