The Willow River State Park has the largest mountain bike trail network in the region and its grand opening was last Saturday. It took nine years and thousands of volunteer hours and now it’s finally open to the public. The new trail system runs inside two of Wisconsin’s state parks and is separated by 15 miles.
Volunteer trail builders wish that this project would result in the future support of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to develop a much larger trail system.
They hoped the bike trail would persuade the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to support the development of a larger system.
After the first 3.5 miles of new trail at Willow River State Park, another trail with 1.5 miles is expected to open by year’s end.
