This Campground is one of the most popular in the area. Surrounding the Watchaug Pond in Charlestown are 3,100 acres of rocky woodland that belong to this area.

The entrance to the park headquarters and camping area can be found right off off U.S. Route #1, and is just south of the entrance to the Naval Auxiliary Landing Field.

Between these two points is located the entrance to the main park, picnic area and the Kimball Sanctuary via Prosser Trail, which is now being straightened and resurfaced.
