Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park to host festive candlelight tours

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks announced that Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park will host holiday candlelight tours from Dec. 17 through Dec. 23. Reservations can be made Nov. 29 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. by calling 406-287-3541. Reservations are required. The cost is $15 for anyone ages 5-11 and $25 for anyone older than 15. No one under the age of 4 is permitted. Tickets are nonrefundable. Parking passes are $8 per vehicle for nonresidents. Park staff will provide the tour guides, candles and lanterns, and hot drinks. FWP proposes new archery range at Big Arm State Park

Fish, Wildlife & Parks is proposing to develop a new archery range at Big Arm State Park. The state would put in a new gravel parking lot, a covered firing line, and an elevated shooting platform at Big Arm. Annual National Bison day expands virtual expedition to 4 locations

Today marks the 4th Annual National Bison Day Virtual Expedition and this year the expedition is expanding to four different locations, including two places in Montana. First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park & Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center shared their knowledge around the country, talking about the history of the bison and how their skin was used. This is the second year Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center has been a part of the virtual expedition, but staff members say there's a chance they will host their own live programs in Great Falls. Hell Creek State Park might be transferred to Little Shell Chippewa Tribe soon

Montana State Parks and the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe are close to transferring the FWP's lease of Hell Creek State Park from the state to the Fort Peck Reservation. A memorandum of agreement was signed in early October 2021 which officially started the process. The tribe is expected to open its reservation system for the 2022 season before year's end. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers owns the site at Fort Peck Lake. Somers Beach to be added to Montana’s state park system

The Somers Beach property on the northwest shore of Flathead Lake has been acquired by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) and it is now being planned to be added to Montana’s state park system. Previously it was a private property and once it becomes part of the Montana State Parks, it would be accessible to the public and other people would get to enjoy the beauty of the place. Glacier National Park closes Logan Pass due to snow

Glacier National Park officials decided to close the Logan Pass due to the heavy snow and safety concerns. The road closure starts today and the people affected will be advised soon when the road would reopen. In the meantime, visitors could drive to Avalanche on the west side of the park, and to Jackson Overlook on the east side. Note that the Many Glacier Road is also closed for the season due to a construction project. Another round of heavy snow is expected by Wednesday to Thursday, the public is advised to take extra precautions especially while traveling on snowy roads. [...]

Montana State Parks turns over Hell Creek State Park to Little Shell Chippewa Tribe

Montana State Parks has taken heat in the past regarding its management of the Hell Creek State Park, they've contemplated whether the state would continue managing the park or turn it over to the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe. In the end, they decided to turn over the State Park's management and maintenance to the tribe. Montana State Parks signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe, turning over management of Hell Creek State Park on Fort Peck Reservoir to them. Continuous effort for the Funding for New State Flathead Park

Senator Jon Tester continues to secure the funding for a new state park along the shore of Flathead Lake. The $1.3 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund will be added to the $3 million purchase budget to acquire and develop over 100 acres of land on the north shore of the popular lake. Cornhole tournament at Giant Springs State Park

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Calling all cornhole enthusiasts! Giant Springs State Park will be hosting a cornhole tournament on Saturday, Oct. 9. At 1:30 pm.
