Offering the chance to immerse yourself within its magnificent scenery, as well as enjoy a range of leisurely pursuits, this Oklahoma State Park also has a several accommodation options for those who want to explore it over a few days. This includes cabins, RV sites with full hookups, and primitive tent sites.

Overall Oklahoma has 32 excellent state parks within its system. If you are in need of a break from the hectic pace of city life, and just want to reconnect with nature, this is one of the best of them to visit.

Activities

Those who visit Greenleaf state park can partake in a wide range of recreational activities including boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, mini-golf and birding.

There are also several scenic spots for a picnic located throughout the park, many of which are by the lake, as well as numerous areas that are perfect for photography.

Boating at Greenleaf State Park

Situated on the banks of Greenleaf Lake, the park offers several non-motorized boating related activities for the visitor.

This includes the likes of kayaking, canoeing, row boating and SUP. However, activities such as water-skiing or jet-skiing are not permitted however.

Swimming at Greenleaf State Park

As well as the aquatic activities outlined above, swimming is a very popular activity at the park.

Not only is there a lovely swimming beach to enjoy, the park also has an onsite swimming pool too.

Neither are lifeguarded, so you will have to exercise caution when you use them, but on a hot summers day you’ll want to spend a lot of time cooling off at one or the other.

Hiking at Greenleaf State Park

One of the main highlights of the park is the 18-mile trail which meanders its way through it.

Providing a pleasant experience for hikers of all levels, the trail starts from within the park and winds its way slowly around the outskirts of Greenleaf Lake.

Throughout its course, it offers wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. Should you decide to tackle it, you are strongly advised to bring plenty of bug repellent with you, as well as powder sulfur.

Its lush undergrowth and thickset woodland is a virulent breeding ground for ticks, chiggers and mosquitoes.

Fishing at Greenleaf State Park

Fishing is a very popular activity at the park, with motors being allowed onto the lake.

You can also cast a line from its banks, and should catch plenty of white and largemouth bass, as well as bluegill, black and white crappie, channel catfish and sunfish from either method.

If you are over 16 years old you will need an Oklahoma State fishing licence before you can fish. However, if you are under this age there is a kids pond which you can fish at, without the requirement of a permit.

Mini-Golf at Greenleaf State Park

One of the best recreational features at the park is its 18-hole mini golf course.
The course here is a lot of fun, with the degree of difficulty for each holes varying from beginner all the way through to advanced player status.

Putters and balls can be rented from the park office for a nominal fee.

Birding at Greenleaf State Park

If you are into birdwatching then you will love the chance to observe a wide range of species including warblers, waterfowl, local songbirds, eagles and turkeys, at the park.

You can also take ranger-led tours to the Webber Falls Lock and Dam, as well as the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge for further ornithological opportunities.

Pets at Greenleaf State Park

Greenleaf is a very friendly state park, with pets allowed in both the cabins and most other areas.

Per cabin, up to two pets are welcomed, so long as they are supervised, leashed outside, and you pay a deposit.

Cabins at Greenleaf State Park

Built by the WPA, the park offers up 16 rustic cabins that are furnished with kitchens, bathrooms, and a full range of standard size appliances.

They also all have air conditioning and heating, while 10 of the cabins come with fireplaces. Towels and linens are provided too.

14 of these cabins sleep up to four guests. Of the other two, one cabin sleeps two guests and the other can accommodate eight guests in two bedrooms.

Greenleaf also offers a ‘cabin on the lake’, which is set up for those who live with physical disability.

Camping at Greenleaf State Park

As well as the cabins, Greenleaf has a very impressive campground that features over 100 RV sites. Many of which have full hookups and 50 amp electricity.

There are also plenty of tent campsites available too, and they, along with the RV sites, must be reserved online.

The campground at Greenleaf Lake State Park tends to be busiest during the summer months.

Amenities at Greenleaf State Park

As well as what has been previously mentioned, other amenities at the Greenleaf State Park include a pavilion, community building, enclosed shelter and outdoor shelter.

There is also a discovery center, amphitheater, gift shop, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as a splash pad onsite too.
Greenleaf is also managed by a park ranger too.
