Virginia Beach officials issued a swimming advisory for First Landing State Park on Wednesday until further notice due to the high level of bacteria found on the beach waters.

This group of organisms is used to determine the range of fecal contamination, studies indicate that their presence is closely related to the presence of harmful disease-causing organisms. Direct contact on these types of waters with high bacteria levels is harmful and has a high risk to develop several diseases.
It is impossible to pinpoint precisely what causes each case of high microorganism levels, however, waste from humans. domestic pets, storms, agricultural runoff leaks in pipes, boat discharge, and heavy rain are all contributing factors.
