Huntington City beach and other State Park beaches in California are being tested with regards to water quality by a private firm to determine whether it’s safe for people to enjoy the ocean again. Beaches from Bosa Chica to Dana point had shut down ocean access including the sand after a massive oil spill sent 131,000 gallons into the ocean, affecting the waterline, and beaches in the area.
Last October 7, 2021, some beaches in Dana Point already lifted the restriction but water quality advisories were posted to make people aware of the recent oil spill. Clean up efforts are still ongoing both on the sand and the offshore. It’s still hard to tell when the water would be clean enough for people to safely swim and surf in it.
Residents and visitors are still waiting for the go signal and lifting of restrictions of the other beach in the area.
