As a tribute to his late grandfather, Christian Alexandersen, 36, ran a mile in all 121 of Pennsylvania’s state parks. His grandfather, Robert Sauer died in early December from COVID-19 and got the idea while visiting Little Buffalo State Park in Perry County last fall.

He soon started making plans and scheduling the trips with his wife then finally turn it into reality in January. His first run made him realize that it’s easier said than done. He faced many challenges along his journey like weather conditions, park conditions, and injuries which took a toll on his body. But seeing all the magnificent views and meeting wonderful people along the way makes it worthwhile.

Alexandersen finished his quest last Aug. 13 at Little Buffalo, the park where he got the idea for this quest. He is currently resting and healing his body. His advice on those who are planning to do a similar challenge? that is to do it on a longer time span so you don’t miss anything and maximize what the park has to offer and also let your body heal. He made a list of parks that he want to get back to and fully enjoy. “I’m just going to be checking out parks this time,” Alexandersen said.
