The Yurok Tribe requested that the Patrick Point State Park in California be reverted back to its original name, SueMeg State Park. This was the Park’s original name until 1800.
The park was given its current name to commemorate Patrick Began, who was accused of murder by Native Americans during that time.
The name change proposal stemmed from “ Past Initiative”, a California State project. California State Park has no objections and supports reverting back to the Park’s original name. The proposal was actually submitted in January of this year.
Tomorrow is the last day where people can email a comment to the State Park system before the State Park votes on the proposal.
