Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park – This 23,000 acres savannah and Florida state’s first preserve celebrated its 50th anniversary plus one year last Sunday. The celebration was delayed last year due to the COVID pandemic.

The festivities attracted hundreds of nature lovers, families, couples, and individuals throughout the day enjoying different activities like the Cowpoke camp, ranger-led hike, the premiere of the new visitor film, Kid fishing clinic, junior ranger activity, and demonstration of Wildland Firefighting equipment.

“The park and its visitors go hand-in-hand giving each other life. Especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, more people have been coming to remember the things that have meaning. We are in the memory and recreation business, with an emphasis on recreating and releasing endorphins” says Donald Forgione, the outgoing park manager.
