Cindy Adams Dunn, state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources secretary proposed a solar canopy array that will help Presque Isle State Park reach net-zero energy consumption.

This plan is a part of their climate and sustainability project which was inspired by the installment of the solar array in front of the park’s Tom Ridge Environmental Center in 2016, which began providing energy to help light that building.

The solar panels are planned to be installed in the parking lot of Beach 8 and as per their estimation, it will save DCNR $30,000 yearly on electricity while producing enough energy to power 25 homes.

It will also significantly reduce the area’s carbon footprint by almost 96 tons per year.
