Due to climate change and alteration in the landscape in the West, scientists warn how lightning might ignite more wildfires.
Lightning caused 40% of wildfires in the West according to the US Forest Service.
Their study predicts that there would be a 12% increase in lightning strikes for each degree Celsius of increase in the temperature. If people continue to burn coal and fossil fuels, an anticipated 50% increase in lightning strikes is likely to happen.
