It wouldn’t be a good idea to take the Oneida route because of safety concerns. Instead, use the I-40 to Crossville and take Highway 127 north to Jamestown.
While you’re there, visit the Pickett CCC Memorial State Park, northwest of Jamestown. “CCC” means Civilian Conservation Corps and there’s a small historical museum near the park office, that you can view with your family. They also have an archeology museum.
There are some cabins for renters and a small campground that has water and electricity for the RV sites and those with tents.
The lake at Pickett has a swimming area, picnic tables and shelters, and a long metal swinging bridge leading over and up to a shelter and lookout site.
