The Somers Beach property on the northwest shore of Flathead Lake has been acquired by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) and it is now being planned to be added to Montana’s state park system.

Previously it was a private property and once it becomes part of the Montana State Parks, it would be accessible to the public and other people would get to enjoy the beauty of the place.

FWP is not looking into the place’s public safety, sanitation and parking. Proposed amenities are outlined in a draft environmental assessment that is available on FWP’s website here, and it is open to public input through Nov. 6.

The visitors are asked to act responsibly once the Somer Beach opens to the public, i.e. No camping or campfires; Leave No Trace, and Pack It In, Pack it Out etiquette – while also respecting neighboring private property.
