Volunteers get rid of invasive plants at Savannas Preserve State Park

The primary purpose of The Project ANT Program is to eliminate invasive exotic plants, with the help of local volunteers. This project is initiated by Florida Park Service under AmeriCorps program. The AmeriCorps members at Savannas Preserve State Park are looking for volunteers to come out and help remove invasive plants and trees on the fourth Monday of the month at the park, meeting at the Savannas Preserve Education Center, 2541 SE Walton Road, from 10 a.m. to noon. Winter Is Coming, So Florida Black Bears Are Fatting Up In Preparation

There are an estimated 1,000 bears in South Florida living in the conservation areas of Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park. Bears begin eating more calories in the fall to pack on additional fat needed during the winter months. Bears will consume up to 20,000 calories per day and will snack on anything that’s convenient, including what's in your garbage.   See more...

Panama City Beach to get more sand

At the very least, sandcastle aficionados soon will have plenty of new, premium building material in Panama City Beach. Work began on the third-largest beach renourishment project ever in PCB earlier this month. During the next four to five months, about 12 miles of white, sandy beaches will be restored to their proper states after being heavily eroded by Hurricanes Michael and Sally.   See more...

39th Anniversary of the Southern Trailriders Association

The Southern Trailriders Association has been keeping Tallahassee's forest trails in good hiking shape since the time of its existence almost 30 years ago. This October marks their 30th anniversary which will be celebrated on Oct. 15, 2021, at 6:30-10 p.m., The following day the celebration will continue with a trail ride at the Apalachicola State Park in Florida.
