Silver Springs State Park now has a new glass-bottom boat that’s wheelchair-accessible. It’s the first time in 30 years that the state park has acquired such an asset.
The new glass-bottom boat is similar to the others of its kind except that it’s specifically designed to accommodate large wheelchairs and foldaway seats of the disabled and the elderly.
This gives them a fair chance to enjoy the unique experience of underwater views with their loved ones.
It was Paula Russo’s idea to provide Silver Springs State Park such a boat and it’s now Chief Potackee – Betty Mae Tiger Jumper. It’s named after the female former chief of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Russo herself is a polio survivor and a disability-rights advocate who uses a motorized wheelchair.
