Nestled within Appalachia, It is a particular favorite among nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts who regularly come here to escape the pressures of work and city life.

It is also a noted spot for camping, offering well maintained sites for both RVs and tent campers who want to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Boating at Wolf Run State Park

Wolf Run Lake is the centerpiece of Wolf Run State Park, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy a day on the water.

Covering 220 acres and possessing a maximum depth of 35 feet, it is a great spot for boating, kayaking, and canoeing.

Visitors can launch their own watercraft from the park’s boat ramp, or rent a kayak or rowboat from the park office.

Swimming at Wolf Run State Park

The park features a designated swimming area that is marked by buoys or ropes and is staffed by trained lifeguards during the summer season.

A great place to cool off on a hot summer day, the swimming area features crystal-clear waters and beautiful views of the surrounding natural scenery.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it’s important to follow the park’s rules and regulations related to swimming and water-based activities.

Fishing at Wolf Run State Park

The lake is stocked with a variety of fish, including bluegill, crappie, bass, and catfish, making it a popular destination for anglers.

Visitors can fish from the shore or launch a boat to access deeper waters.

The park also offers a fishing pier, which is ADA accessible, and a fish cleaning station for cleaning and preparing your catch.

Hiking at Wolf Run State Park

For those who enjoy hiking, Wolf Run State Park offers a variety of trails for visitors to explore.

Ranging from gentle ambles to seriously tough hikes, they offer something for guests of all skill and fitness levels.

For a gentle stroll, be sure to explore the Wolf Run Lake Trail, which is a popular 2.7-mile loop that winds around the lake and offers stunning views of the water and surrounding hills.

Should you fancy something a bit more challenging, the Pine Creek Trail is a 4-mile course that takes hikers through the park’s forests and over rugged terrain.

Picnicking at Wolf Run State Park

Wolf Run State Park has several picnic areas which enable visitors to enjoy a meal in the great outdoors.

These picnic areas are equipped with picnic tables, grills, and restrooms, making them a convenient spot for a family outing or a day trip with friends.

In addition, the park has two picnic shelters that can be reserved for larger groups and events.

Birding at Wolf Run State Park

If you are into birding you should pack your binoculars as the park is home to a wide range of bird species.

Residing at various parts of its diverse landscape, you should be able to spot waterfowl, woodpeckers and songbirds depending on where you head to in the park.


Wolf Run State Park is a pet-friendly destination, allowing visitors to bring their furry friends along for their outdoor adventures.

Whilst at the park, pets must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed in designated swimming areas and certain buildings.


Camping is a popular activity at Wolf Run State Park, and there are plenty of options available for visitors looking to spend the night in the great outdoors. Overall, the park offers two camping areas: one for RVs and one for tent camping.

The RV campground features 150 campsites, many of which are equipped with electric hookups. These sites are spacious and level, and can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 50 feet long.

Other amenities at the RV campground include showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a playground for kids.

The tent camping area is located in a more secluded part of the park which is surrounded by trees and wildlife. all up there are 50 primitive campsites available and each of them comes with their own picnic table and a fire ring.

While there are no electric hookups in the tent camping area, there are vault toilets and a water source nearby. If you are looking to disconnect from the world and enjoy a peaceful night under the stars this is a perfect place to stay.

Both tent campgrounds are open from April through to October, and reservations are recommended.

For those looking for a more luxurious camping experience, there are also two deluxe cabins available for rent.

These cabins are located in a secluded area of the park and offer all the comforts of home, including heating, air conditioning, a full kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. They also have a porch with a picnic table and a charcoal grill.

Again, reservations are recommended.
