About America’s State Parks

Your trusted guide to exploring state parks across all 50 states. We help millions of outdoor enthusiasts discover, plan, and enjoy America’s most accessible natural treasures.

🎯 Our Mission

We’re outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and adventure seekers—just like you.

We’ve felt the rush of reaching a summit at sunrise. We’ve watched our kids catch their first fish. We’ve sat around campfires sharing stories with strangers who became friends.
And we’ve discovered that state parks remain America’s best-kept secret—offering the same stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and unforgettable adventures as national parks, often without the crowds and at a fraction of the cost.

At AmericasStateParks.org, we’re on a mission to change that. We believe every family deserves to experience the wonder of a mountain sunrise, the peace of a forest trail, and the joy of camping under the stars—without needing a PhD in trip planning or winning the national park reservation lottery.

Whether you’re a stressed city dweller seeking weekend escapes, a photography enthusiast chasing the perfect shot, or a parent wanting to unplug the kids and reconnect with nature—we’re here to help you find your next adventure.

📖 Our Story

America’s State Parks was founded in 2019 by a team of outdoor enthusiasts who noticed a glaring gap: while there were endless resources for planning national park trips, state parks—which collectively welcome more visitors annually than all national parks combined—had fragmented, outdated, or non-existent online resources.

We set out to build the most comprehensive, user-friendly state park resource on the web. Today, we’re proud to be the trusted companion for families planning their first camping trip, photographers hunting for the perfect shot, anglers searching for their next catch, and adventurers seeking hidden gems off the beaten path.

🧭 The Team Behind the Site

Written & Maintained by the AmericasStateParks.org Editorial Team

We’re a small, dedicated team of outdoor writers, researchers, and conservation advocates. Collectively, we’ve explored state parks across 42 states, logged hundreds of trail miles, and spent countless nights under the stars — all to bring you the most accurate and practical guides possible.

Every guide on this site is built from real research: official park data, on-the-ground experience, and conversations with rangers and fellow visitors. Our goal is simple — help you spend less time planning and more time exploring.

“We believe state parks are America’s greatest outdoor secret. They offer the same breathtaking landscapes as national parks, often with fewer crowds, lower costs, and a stronger connection to local communities.”

✅ Our Editorial Process

We take accuracy seriously. Every piece of content goes through a rigorous multi-step process to ensure you get trustworthy, up-to-date information:

01

Research & Verify

Every park guide starts with official state park websites, government databases, and firsthand visitor reports. We cross-reference operating hours, fees, trail conditions, and seasonal info with multiple sources.

02

Write & Review

Our content is written by experienced outdoor writers and reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and practical value. We focus on real advice — the kind of tips a ranger would share at the trailhead.

03

Update & Maintain

Park information changes constantly — fees increase, trails close, facilities get upgraded. We regularly re-verify our content and display a “Last Verified” date so you always know how current our information is.

💰 How We’re Funded

We believe in full transparency about how this site operates. AmericasStateParks.org is independently run and is not affiliated with any government agency.

This site is primarily funded through two channels:

  • Display Advertising — We partner with Mediavine, an ad management platform trusted by thousands of premium publishers. The ads you see on this site help fund our ongoing research, content updates, and server costs.
  • Affiliate Programs — We participate in various affiliate programs with outdoor brands, booking platforms, and gear retailers. When you click on certain links (camping reservations, gear recommendations, park passes), we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. These include programs from outdoor retailers, campground booking platforms, and other travel-related services.
Our Promise: Neither ad revenue nor affiliate relationships ever influence our recommendations. We recommend parks and gear based on merit alone. If a product or service isn’t worth your time, we won’t link to it — no matter the commission. Our content is written first, monetization comes second.
