You don’t need to spend a dime to enjoy some of America’s best state parks. Several states offer completely free admission to all their parks, and many others have no-fee options that rival expensive destinations.

States with No Entrance Fees

Tennessee: All 56 state parks are free to enter. Missouri: All 92 state parks and historic sites charge no admission. Other states with mostly free parks include Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, and Kansas.

Free Days & Discounts

Many states that normally charge entrance fees offer free admission days throughout the year – often on National Public Lands Day (September), Veterans Day, and state-specific holidays. Check your state’s parks website for the current free-day calendar.

Discover Free Camping

While campgrounds typically charge fees even in free-admission parks, some states offer primitive backcountry camping at no charge. Dispersed camping is allowed in many state forests adjacent to state parks, giving you a completely free outdoor experience.
