Chief Logan — The Mingo Leader

The park is named for Chief Logan (Tah-gah-jute, c. 1723–1780), a Mingo (Iroquois) leader known for his initial friendship with European settlers and his eloquent oratory. His famous “Logan’s Lament” speech, delivered after the murder of his family in 1774, was widely circulated in colonial America and praised by Thomas Jefferson as rivaling the finest Greek and Roman orations.
