Boating at Nickerson State Park

Boating is a popular activity at Nickerson State Park.

The park has several ponds that are suitable for this pastime including Flax Pond, Cliff Pond, and Little Cliff Pond. There are also several boat launches that can easily get you onto the water.

Visitors can bring their own boats or rent them at the park. Please note, there are restrictions on the type of boats that are allowed on the ponds. These include a maximum boat size of 16 feet.

Unfortunately personal watercraft and jet skis are not allowed on the pond. So you will have to leave your kayaks and canoes at home.

Swimming at Nickerson State Park

Throughout the park, you will find several beaches including Flax Pond Beach and Cliff Pond Beach, that offer visitors opportunities for swimming and sunbathing.

You should be aware that lifeguards are not on duty, so if you do enter the water you will be doing it at your own risk.

All park visitors are encouraged to follow posted rules and guidelines to ensure their safety, such as staying within designated swimming areas and avoiding areas with underwater hazards.

Fishing at Nickerson State Park

Anglers from all over Massachusetts come to the park for its terrific fishing opportunities.

The park has several ponds, including Flax Pond, Cliff Pond, and Little Cliff Pond, that offer opportunities for fishing. These ponds are stocked with various species of fish, including rainbow trout, bass, and perch.

A Massachusetts fishing license is required for visitors 16 years of age and older. Visitors should be aware of the park’s fishing regulations, such as catch and release policies.

Hiking at Nickerson State Park

Picnic areas are dotted about several different sections of the park, including Flax Pond Beach and Cliff Pond Beach.
All of them offer guests the chance to enjoy the park’s natural beauty whilst dining al fresco.

Most have tables, grills, and restrooms, making them a great place for families to enjoy a meal or for groups to hold a gathering. Visitors should be mindful that the consumption of alcohol is strictly not permitted anywhere within the confines of the park.

Birding at Nickerson State Park

Nickerson State Park is a terrific destination for birdwatching.

The park’s diverse habitats, including woodlands, marshes, and ponds, attract a variety of bird species. Some of which include woodpeckers, warblers, waterfowl, and shorebirds.

Pets

Nickerson State Park allows pets, but with certain restrictions.

Dogs are allowed in designated areas of the park, including campsites and picnic areas. However, they must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them.

Camping

Camping at Nickerson State Park offers a variety of options for outdoor enthusiasts who want to stay overnight.

Rustic tent camping sites and RV camping sites are available. Many of which are full hookups with either 20-amp, 30-amp or 50-amp electricity, or have electric connections and water.

All campsites come with access to restrooms and showers. There are also a number picnic areas and fire pits for campers to use.
