Located just 10 minutes from downtown Wilmington, along the picturesque banks of the Delaware River, Fox Point State Park is a wonderful place to visit.
Spanning 108-acres, the scenic waterfront park is a popular destination to partake in a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Much of which takes place in or around the river.
One of the main features of Fox Point State Park is the picturesque walking and biking trail that stretches for nearly two miles along the riverfront. The trail offers breathtaking aqua views and provides opportunities to spot wildlife and generally take in the natural beauty of the area.
In addition to the trail, there are also several picnic areas, which make it an ideal spot for a family picnic or a romantic lunch by the river.
For those wanting to get on the water, there is a convenient ramp facility available for boating, canoeing and kayaking. This Delaware state park is also a top spot for fishing with the likes of catfish and bass regularly biting.

Walking and Biking Trail at Fox Point State Park

Well-maintained, it is an excellent spot for birdwatching and nature photography, while it is also popular with joggers and cyclists looking to stay active while enjoying the outdoors.
Boating at Fox Point State Park
Not surprisingly given its convenient location along the Delaware River, the park is a popular spot for boating.
Visitors can launch both motorized and non-motorized boats from the park’s ramp and enjoy a day on the water exploring the scenic views along the river. Alternatively you can hit the water in a kayak, canoe or paddleboard.
Those who do not have their own boats or watercraft can rent them from nearby rental companies.
Fishing at Fox Point State Park
Fishing is a very popular activity at Fox Point State Park, attracting anglers from all over the state with the prospect of catching a variety of fish species.
As it is on the Delaware River it provides fantastic opportunities for both freshwater and saltwater fishing.
The likes of striped bass, white perch, catfish, and shad regularly bite and there are two fishing piers that are open year-round where you can drop a line from. Alternatively, you can cast a reel room a boat ramp and a fishing dock.
Wherever you choose to fish, anglers must have a Delaware fishing license, which can be obtained at the park office or online.
Picnicking at Fox Point State Park
Given its beautiful location, Fox Point State Park is a pleasant spot for a picnic.
Throughout the park you will find several picnic tables, benches, and grills that are available for park visitors to use on a first come, first serve basis. These include the riverside picnic area and the pavilion area.
Both areas offer a great opportunity for visitors to enjoy a relaxing outdoor meal with family and friends while enjoying the scenic views of the Delaware River.
The pavilion area is equipped with a large pavilion that can be reserved for group events such as family reunions, birthday parties, and other special occasions.
Close to these areas you will find restroom facilities and water fountains.
Birding at Fox Point State Park
Fox Point State Park offers opportunities for birding enthusiasts to observe a variety of species in their natural habitat.
The park’s location provides a diverse ecosystem for birds to thrive in. Over by its marsh and tidal flats you should also see several species of shorebirds, including sandpipers and plovers. Meanwhile, its wooded areas provide a home for migratory songbirds such as warblers and thrushes.
At various other places, you should also get to see plenty of ospreys, eagles and hawks, depending on the time of year you visit.
In addition to the act of actually observing birds, visitors can listen to their songs and calls, which add to the overall experience of exploring nature.
Pets
Pets are allowed to join you at Fox Point State Park, however they must be on a leash of no more than 6 feet for the entirety of the time they are there.
Dog owners are also responsible for cleaning up after their pets and properly disposing of waste in designated trash cans.
They should also be aware of what areas of the park they are not permitted to bring their four-legged friend.

Camping
Unfortunately, Fox Point State Park does not have any camping facilities within its boundaries. However, there are several campgrounds nearby that offer a range of amenities and experiences for those who need overnight accommodation.
One option is Lums Pond State Park, around 25 miles south of Fox Point State Park. It offers more than 60 campsites, some of which come with hookups for water and electricity, as well as cabins and yurts. In terms of recreational activities, the park also features a 200-acre pond that offers fishing, boating, and kayaking opportunities. It also has over 12 miles of hiking and biking trails.
Another option is Killens Pond State Park which is located about 40 miles south of Fox Point. This facility presents more than 50 campsites for RVs and tents, many of which have electric and water hookups.
If you stay here you will also be able to fish, boat or kayak in its 66-acre pond, or tackle over 17 miles of hiking and biking trails.

There is no boat ramp or fishing allowed at this park. There is a fence along the rivers edge and it is clearly marked that there is no access to the shoreline. Beautiful place though.
