Known for its scenic beauty and numerous recreational opportunities, Percy Quin State Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

This Mississippi state park, Located in the city of McComb, covers approximately 1,700 acres and offers a variety of recreational opportunities. This includes fishing, boating and hiking, most of which takes place on, or near, a large lake that has a beautiful beach.

The park also has several picnic areas with tables and grills, which make it a terrific place to have a family gathering or spend time with friends.

It is a popular day trip destination from New Orleans, Jackson and Baton Rouge, all of which are less than a 90 minute drive away.

However, for those who want to take the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the park, they can choose to stay at its large campground, which features over 100 RV and standard campsites.

Activities

For visitors, the park offers a number of different ways in which to enjoy its beautiful scenery.

Boating at Percy Quin State Park

Boating is a lovely way to enjoy the scenic beauty of Percy Quin State Park.

The park has a large lake that provides excellent conditions for small boats, canoes, and kayaks. Visitors are welcome to bring their own boats with them or rent them on-site.

Throughout the park there are several boat ramps available for launching boats. If you do take to the water in a vessel or a watercraft you are advised to wear a life jacket and other safety equipment.

Swimming at Percy Quin State Park

Swimming is a popular activity at the park, particularly on the hot days of summer when temperatures can exceed 90 degree Celsius.

The park has a lovely sandy beach area with a designated swimming area, as well as a roped-off area in which you can go for a dip. These areas are lifeguarded to ensure the safety of visitors. So you can enter the water with the peace of mind that you are being looked after.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring their own beach towels and sun protection.

Fishing at Percy Quin State Park

Anglers from across Mississippi and neighboring Louisiana come to the park to enjoy its marvelous fishing conditions.

The lake is stocked with a variety of fish species, including bass, catfish, and crappie, so you should have no trouble catching a good haul.

Guests at the park can bring their own fishing gear or rent equipment on-site. There are several fishing docks and piers available for visitors to use, and fishing is allowed from the shore or from a boat.

To fish at the park you will need a valid license as required by the state.

Hiking at Percy Quin State Park

Hiking is a wonderful way to experience the spectacular nature of Percy Quin State Park and to get some exercise while enjoying the outdoors.

Throughout the park there are several miles of scenic trails that meander through its rolling hills, dense forests, past its streams and along its lake.

The trails range in difficulty from easy nature walks to more strenuous hikes, making them suitable for a variety of ages and abilities.

Whilst out on the trails, visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and a hat, bring plenty of water with them and slap on lots of sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

Birding at Percy Quin State Park

Percy Quin State Park is a great location for birdwatching.

The park’s diverse habitats, including forests, fields, and wetlands, provide a natural environment for a variety of bird species.

Some of the breeds that can be seen in the park include warblers, vireos, thrushes, orioles, and waterfowl.

The park also has several bird-watching blinds and observation areas, making it easy for visitors to observe them.

Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars and bird identification guides to make the most of their birding experience.

Pets

Percy Quin State Park prides itself on being a pet-friendly park and visitors are welcome to bring their pets with them.

That said, there are some rules and regulations that must be followed to ensure the safety of both pets and other visitors.

For instance, while pets are allowed in designated pet-friendly areas, such as picnic areas and campgrounds, they must be kept on a leash at all times. They are also not allowed in designated swimming areas, park buildings, or on most hiking trails.

Pet owners are also responsible for cleaning up after their pets and for ensuring that they do not disturb wildlife or other park visitors.

Camping

Camping is a popular activity at Percy Quin State Park, and is a great way to enjoy the park’s scenic beauty and various recreational opportunities.

The park has a large campground with over 100 campsites, including both standard campsites and RV sites. These campsites are equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, and there are several bathhouses with showers and restrooms available for campers to use.

Visitors can bring their own camping gear or rent tents and other equipment on-site. There are also several backcountry camping sites available for those who want a more rustic camping experience.

As the campground does get busy – especially during peak season – visitors are encouraged to make reservations well in advance of their stay.
