🏕️ Lake Thurmond’s Quiet Side — Mountain Biking, Lake Fishing, and Camping on South Carolina’s Western Border — Baker Creek State Park in McCormick County, South Carolina, on the shores of 71,000-acre Lake Thurmond (Clarks Hill), 10 miles of mountain biking trails, two boat ramps, RV and tent camping, fishing for largemouth bass crappie and catfish, seasonal operation March–September, lakefront pavilion — McCormick County, SC

Lake Thurmond is one of the largest man-made lakes in the Southeast — 71,000 acres of water straddling the South Carolina–Georgia border. Baker Creek State Park sits on the quiet South Carolina side, where the forest runs right down to the waterline and the mountain bike trails twist through hardwoods and pine.

This is not the crowded side of the lake. Baker Creek is a seasonal park — open March through September — with 10 miles of singletrack, two boat ramps, and campgrounds under the trees. The fishing is serious: largemouth bass, crappie, striped bass, and channel catfish all call Thurmond home.
