Bobby Brown Park covers 665 acres on Clarks Hill Lake (Lake Thurmond), which Elbert County describes as the 71,100-acre, second-largest constructed lake east of the Mississippi River. You can fish, launch a boat from the courtesy ramp at the park’s two piers, swim in the lake, hike 1.9 miles of trails and cross the swinging bridge. The park also has an 18-hole disc golf course with several baskets along the shoreline, 3-D archery, and kayak, paddleboard and pedal boat rentals. For overnight stays there are 58 water-and-electric campsites in two campgrounds, a primitive Pioneer Campground, five yurts in the Danny Burt Yurt Village and the pet-friendly Petersburg Cabin (as of October 2026). Best Time to Visit
The park gate is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The county’s 2025–2026 event calendar fills the summer holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) and adds a spring market in April, the Bobby Brown Catfish Classic, a charity catfish tournament, in May (May 8–10 in 2026) and HauntFest weekends in July and November. Campsites, yurts and the cabin can be reserved up to 11 months ahead; on holiday and special event weekends you pay for your original arrival and departure dates even if you leave early.
Visitor Tips
Bobby Brown Park has been run by Elbert County under a lease from Georgia DNR since 2015, so the Georgia ParkPass does not apply. Parking costs $5 per vehicle, or $40 for an annual pass (as of October 2026).
