Castle Rocks State Park is a state park in the Albion Mountains near Almo, Cassia County, south-central Idaho, managed by Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Adjacent to the City of Rocks National Reserve, the park features dramatic granite formations — weathered spires, pinnacles, and monoliths rising from sagebrush-covered mountain valleys, world-class rock climbing with routes for all skill levels on weathered granite faces, equestrian camping with corrals and horseback riding trails through mountain terrain, hiking trails with panoramic views of the Snake River Plain and surrounding mountain ranges, mountain biking on designated singletrack through sage and juniper landscape, developed camping with both tent and RV sites, stargazing under some of the darkest skies in the lower 48 — far from any significant light pollution, and a geological landscape shaped by millions of years of weathering and erosion.
The rock climbing attracts climbers from across the West — the weathered granite provides excellent friction and features with routes ranging from beginner-friendly slabs to overhanging technical challenges. Combined with the adjacent City of Rocks, the area offers hundreds of established routes.
The dark skies are genuinely spectacular — Castle Rocks’ isolation in rural southern Idaho means virtually zero light pollution. The Milky Way is visible to the naked eye with a clarity that’s increasingly rare in the American West.
