๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ† Ohio River Gateway โ€” Marina on the Ohio River at historic Golconda โ€” gateway to the Smithland Pool and the rivers of southern Illinois

Golconda Marina provides boat access to the Ohio River at the historic town of Golconda โ€” one of the oldest settlements in Illinois (1798). Golconda sits at a dramatic bend in the Ohio River where the river narrows between high bluffs, creating a natural crossing point used by Native peoples for thousands of years. The town was a stop on the Trail of Tears (1838โ€“1839) โ€” Cherokee families crossed the Ohio here during their forced relocation from the southeastern US to Oklahoma. Over 4,000 Cherokee died on the journey.
