Lakepoint State Park, 7 miles north of historic downtown Eufaula is a picturesque secluded wilderness resort on the banks of Lake Eufaula. The park borders on the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge and is only a 2 hour drive southeast of Montgomery. Lake Eufaula, a large reservoir (45,000 acres) on the Chattahoochee River, lies along the border of Georgia and Alabama. Columbus, GA is a short car ride away and a prime spot for shopping and dining. The lake has been given the nickname, ‘Bass Capital of the World’, and is a popular fishing destination. A full service restaurant, lounge, hotel and convention center make the Lakepoint Resort Lodge the other showpiece of this Alabama state park and a comfortable place to stay while you enjoy the lake. Other amenities here include a swimming complex, marina, trails, campground, cabins and cottages.

Activities

Stay overnight at Lakepoint State Park and explore the trails, boat, fish, swim and relax. Nearby Eufaula has a lot of historic sites to visit plus a lot of restaurants and shopping. And Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge has even more trails, fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing right next door. Here are some of the activities available at Lakepoint State Park:

Swimming at Lakepoint State Park

Swim in the refreshing lake and enjoy the sandy beach area or take advantage of the large outdoor saltwater pool at the Lodge. The swimming pool complex at Lakepoint Resort Lodge is open daily 9-9 from Memorial Day until Labor Day weekend. It’s located at the entrance to the lodge property but is only for overnight guests (campers, cabins, cottages or hotel). You’ll receive a passcard to enter the complex when you check in.

Boating at Lakepoint State Park

A fully stocked marina is located inside of the park and has boat rentals of bass boats and pontoons. There are 2 ramps conveniently located to allow for easy access to the lake. The marina also has boat slips and many are open for transient boaters wishing to stay overnight. All of the slips have electric and water hookups plus there are showers and restrooms available at the marina. The marina also has a restaurant (Lakepoint Marina Grill) and a store with snacks, ice, gifts and other supplies.

Fishing at Lakepoint State Park

Trails at Lakepoint State Park

There are 5 miles of trails inside of Lakepoint State Park and many more in the adjoining nature preserve (Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge). Most of the 7 trails inside of the park are about one mile long and easy to moderate. There are maps available at the marina and the front desk at The Lodge. Geocaching is popular in all of the Alabama state parks. More information can be found on the official park website.

ORV at Lakepoint State Park

Lakepoint State Park has a 6 mile course plus 2 skills areas for off-road vehicles. The course was designed to be a diverse ride and contains dirt embankments and rocky sections. It’s a family friendly adventure course with something for every skill level from beginner to the more advanced rider. The two skills areas help prepare the rider for each course. There is one for novices and one for more experienced riders.

Wildlife at Lakepoint State Park

Lake Eufaula is home to one of the largest American alligator populations in the state! But don’t let that discourage you from enjoying the lake at Lakepoint State Park. The alligators mostly keep to themselves and if you don’t bother them they shouldn’t bother you. You’ll also see deer, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels and birds during your visit to the park. And you’ll spot many species of birds as well since the park is located on the eastern edge of the Mississippi Flyway and along Alabama’s Wiregrass Birding Trail. Plus, Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge is right next door! Take the 8 mile drive through this preserve to catch sight of the many species of birds and mammals living inside. If you are a bird lover you will be delighted to see how many songbirds, waterfowl and raptors you can spot during your stay at the park.
