🏆 Official Guide: Vega State Park — A high-mountain recreation area near Collbran, Colorado, at the edge of the Grand Mesa National Forest — centered around the 925-acre Vega Reservoir featuring year-round fishing (rainbow, brook, brown, cutthroat trout), boating + water skiing, 109 campsites + 5 year-round cabins, a 2-mile nature trail through aspen forest, winter sports (cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing), and a visitor center.

Vega State Park is Colorado’s year-round mountain playground — a scenic reservoir park perched at the base of Grand Mesa (the world’s largest flat-top mountain) offering four-season recreation. In summer, the 925-acre reservoir draws boaters, water skiers, and trout anglers; in winter, the park transforms into a staging area for hundreds of miles of snowmobile and cross-country ski trails across the Grand Mesa.

💡 Pro Tip: Vega’s secret weapon is its winter access — the southwest staging area connects to hundreds of miles of snowmobile and cross-country ski trails across Grand Mesa National Forest. In summer, the trout fishing is excellent — rainbow trout dominate, but brook, brown, and cutthroat trout are all present. Water skiers must go counter-clockwise with 150-ft separation. The aspen forest nature trail is spectacular in fall when the aspens turn gold. Note: swimming is generally not allowed except in designated no-wake zones.
