Vesta Cedar Glade State Natural Area in Wilson County protects one of the largest remaining cedar glades in the Nashville Basin. The glade ecosystem โ€” globally unique to central Tennessee โ€” occurs on exposed Ordovician limestone (450 million years old). The Tennessee coneflower, once feared extinct, was rediscovered in glades like this in 1968, leading to its listing under the Endangered Species Act. Recovery efforts have since stabilized the species.
