Montana’s Flathead Lake Gem — 5 Tent-Only Campsites, Sandy Beach Swimming, Deep-Water Boat Launch, Bear-Resistant Food Lockers & Crystal-Clear Lake Views Near Bigfork

Yellow Bay State Park is a unit of the Flathead Lake State Park system on the eastern shore of Flathead Lake near Bigfork, Montana. The park features 5 tent-only campsites (first-come, first-served), a wide gravelly/sandy swimming beach, a deep-water boat launch, bear-resistant food lockers, seasonal flush toilets, and panoramic views of Flathead Lake — the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.

Yellow Bay offers an intimate, tent-only camping experience on the shore of one of North America’s most stunning lakes. Flathead Lake stretches 28 miles long and 15 miles wide, with water so clear you can see 30+ feet below the surface. The park’s 5 campsites are deliberately kept small and quiet — there are no RV hookups and no reservations — creating a first-come, first-served wilderness feel on the lakeshore. The deep-water boat launch provides easy access to the lake’s 191 square miles of open water for fishing, sailing, and water sports. Because the park is located within the Flathead Indian Reservation, fishing requires both a Montana state fishing license and a Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal fishing license.
