1. East Fork State Park
Location: 3294 Elklick Rd, Bethel, OH 45106
The massive East Fork State Park is one of Ohio’s largest state parks around thirty miles east of Cincinnati. The park offers a variety of recreational and natural history experiences ready to entertain the entire family.

3. Caesar Creek State Park
Location: 8570 OH-73, Waynesville, OH 45068

4. Hueston Woods State Park

Hueston Woods State Park sits about fifty miles north of Cincinnati with tons of activities and beauty, including Acton Lake. The park is a popular place for hiking, canoeing, fishing, and fossil hunting, the latter offering a unique activity to this park.
The protected 200-acre old-growth forest is all that remains of the once enormous woodlands removed by early settlers in this area.
Hikers and guests can grab a glimpse of the ancient woodlands that once blanketed the entire state of Ohio. A few miles from the park’s entrance, you will find an 18-hole golf course perfect for soaking up the sun.
Additionally, a 1,500-foot swimming beach with a bathhouse and concession stand makes this park even better. Numerous launch ramps and docks provide convenient access to the lake for boaters and anglers.
With all these activities you will want to spend a few nights at the over 300 campsites available. Over 200 offer electricity, and over 100 are non-electric for a more primitive experience.

5. John Bryan State Park
Location: 3790 OH-370, Yellow Springs, OH 45387
Greene County, Ohio’s John Bryan State Park is farther away from Cincinnati at just over seventy miles but provides tons of amenities and activities, making it worth the trip.
The core of the park connects the Clifton Gorge, and the Little Miami River runs through a limestone cliff between Yellow Springs. Here you can enjoy epic activities, breathtaking views, and a portion of the gorge set apart as a natural landmark.
The state park offers rock climbing, rappelling, fishing, and canoeing just to start. A day lodge allows for group gatherings with full amenities, including two fireplaces, a full kitchen, air conditioning, and a screened-in porch.
With so many connected bodies of water, you can enjoy fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and tons of winter recreation. Take a leisurely stroll through the Storybook trail with smaller children or less experienced visitors, or take your boat out on the water in the launch area.
There are 56 electric and non-electric campsites in the park’s woodland campground. It’s ideal for camping in a tent.
The majority of the sites are slightly shaded and have picnic tables, and fire rings, and all of the sites allow pets. Add in a shower house, drinking water, and a dump station for a comfortable stay.
Furthermore, the campground connects to a network of hiking and bike paths. Finally, if you get bored at night, visit the free Little Library to grab a book and, if possible, leave one behind.
