Catharine Valley Trail is a 12-mile multi-use trail running from Watkins Glen (at the south end of Seneca Lake) south through the Catharine Valley to the town of Horseheads โ€” the heart of Mark Twain Country. The trail follows a former railroad corridor through some of the most beautiful landscape in the Finger Lakes. The Catharine Valley is named for Catharine Montour โ€” a mixed French-Algonquin woman who led a village here in the 1700s. Seneca Lake (the largest Finger Lake at 38 miles long and 618 feet deep!) is visible from the trail’s northern sections.
