About Morris

Morris State Park in Dent County provides recreation on the upper Meramec River in the Missouri Ozarks — one of America’s premier float streams. The Ozarks are an ancient eroded plateau of 1.5-billion-year-old granite and dolomite, laced with over 6,400 caves (more than any other state). The Meramec River flows clear and spring-fed through this karst landscape, creating some of the finest canoe water in the Midwest.

Things to Do

Canoeing and kayaking the Meramec River, fishing for smallmouth bass (excellent), hiking, exploring nearby caves, swimming in spring-fed pools, and camping in the Ozark hill country.

The park provides direct access to the upper Meramec River — bring a canoe or rent one from nearby outfitters. Smallmouth bass fishing is excellent in the clear, spring-fed water. Camping available. The surrounding Ozark hills contain numerous caves open for exploration. A classic Ozark float trip destination.

Getting There

Located on Highway 8 near Sullivan in Franklin County — 60 miles southwest of St. Louis. Camping reservations recommended on summer weekends. Multiple canoe liveries in the Meramec corridor provide boat rentals. The nearby Meramec Caverns (one of Jesse James’ supposed hideouts) adds to the trip.
