The park has over 15 historic buildings that can be visited on organized tours.
Some of them include a dairy barn and homesteads that date back to 1764 and provide a fascinating insight into what life was like on the property for those who lived and worked there.
Bicycling at Norristown Farm Park
Within the park there are several miles of paved trails that are open to cyclists and rollerbladers. They provide convenient ways to explore the park’s serene natural beauty for those who don’t want to walk.
As this trail is shared with pedestrians, you should exercise caution if you intend to traverse it on wheels. You should also be mindful of speed limits as well.
Fishing at Norristown Farm Park
It is worth bringing your rods and reels with you to the park as there are two streams and a farm pond where you can cast a line.
All of these provide picturesque spots in which to catch trout, though you will need both a trout stamp and a Pennsylvania fishing license in order to do so.
Walking at Norristown Farm Park
For those who really want to get a flavor of the park there are 8 miles of trails to explore.
As well as taking you to various historic buildings, these trails showcase the park’s stunning flora and fauna.
This includes 216 species of wildflowers and 89 species of trees like Abraham Lincoln White Oak, John F. Kennedy Post Oak, Franklin D. Roosevelt Redbud and Mark Twain Cave Bur Oak.
You should also see wetlands, a trout nursery, a flood plain, several picnic areas, working fields, old farm fields and the two streams as you traverse them.
Picnicking at Norristown Farm Park
The park’s stunning landscape makes a beautiful backdrop for a picnic.
Throughout it there are several picnic areas visitors can use, as well as two ADA accessible picnic pavilions. Both of the pavilions have five charcoal grills and 14 tables and can host 84 people.
At the pavilion area located next to Parking Lot #3 there is also a horseshoe pit and volleyball court available for guest enjoyment.
There are also restrooms located near the pavilions.
Winter Activities at Norristown Farm Park
During the winter months the park often gets covered in snow. But don’t let this put you off from going there as it makes terrific conditions for sledding, snowshoeing and both cross-country and downhill skiing.
Visitors are welcome to use any part of the park for these activities, however they must assume all liability and risk when doing so on the park’s land.
Birding at Norristown Farm Park
Due to its diverse habitats, which include 89 different species of trees, the park is home to over 170 species of birds. For this reason it is a very popular destination for birding.
The park has set up several prime spots for doing this activity, including a blind that was built by a local boy scout group and a scenic one-acre pond.

Pets
Pets are welcome at Norristown Farm Park, however their presence is subject to strict conditions.
For instance, dogs are not allowed in many of the historic buildings (unless they are service animals). Additionally, they must be well behaved and kept on a handheld leash during their whole time they are at the park.
Several other restrictions also apply. So if you are intending to bring your pet with you it is worth contacting the park’s main office to clarify what those restrictions are.
Camping
There are no camping facilities available onsite at Norristown Farm Park. However those needing a place to set up their tents or RVs can opt to stay at several other campgrounds in the surrounding area.
This includes the likes of the Little Red Barn Campground in Quakertown, the ridley campgrounds in Media, Oak Grove Park in Hatfield and the Deep Creek Campground in Perkiomenville.
Between them, these campgrounds offer a good selection of sites that range from full hookup connections to more rustic options better suited towards self-sufficient campers. They also have several cabins and yurts available, as well as group camping options.
The amenities you will get to enjoy are contingent upon where you stay, but they should include flushable toilets and comfort stations that have hot showers. They may also incorporate a dump station, as well as a children’s playground and a camp store.
