Yes! Tumbledown Pond sits in a glacial cirque just below the summit — it’s one of the few places in Maine where you can swim at the top of a mountain. The water is cold but the setting is unforgettable — cliffs rising above, panoramic views below.

Tumbledown public reserved land encompasses Tumbledown Mountain — one of the most popular hiking destinations in western Maine. The mountain features a stunning alpine pond (Tumbledown Pond) perched in a glacial cirque just below the 3,068-foot summit — one of only two alpine ponds in Maine (the other is on Mount Katahdin). The dramatic cliff faces and open summit offer some of the finest mountain scenery in the state.
