Beautiful Mohican State Park lies along the shores of Pleasant Hill Lake surrounded by a thick hemlock forest only 70 miles north of Columbus, Ohio. This 1,110 acre park also features a scenic gorge, the Mohican River, an 1830s grist mill, a fire tower, 25 miles of trails, a family style campground, and the full-service Mohican Lodge & Conference Center.

This very popular Ohio state park offers guests opportunities to camp, hike, mountain bike, fish, kayak, bird watch, picnic, and tube.

Activities

Spend a few relaxing days surrounded by thousands of acres of forest inside peaceful Mohican State Park. Bring a picnic, or pick up supplies in the camp store, and take a break in one of the 6 picnic areas scattered throughout the park. Once you’re ready to hit the trails, make sure you have plenty of water, a map and binoculars. Then relax at the end of the day inside the campground, cabins or the park’s ultra modern lodge.

Historic Site at Mohican State Park

Hike over to the historic Wolf Creek Grist Mill for a closer look during your visit to Mohican State Park. This historic mill, used to ground grain into flour, was built along Wolf Creek in 1831. It was moved to its present location during the 1970s and today is maintained as a working museum.

Tubing at Mohican State Park

Check out Mohican State Park’s concessionaire, Mohican Adventures, and spend a relaxing day tubing along the Mohican River. Various access points are available throughout the park.

Hiking at Mohican State Park

Get some fresh air and explore the many miles of trails inside Mohican State Park. These trails wind throughout the forest and past a covered bridge, waterfall, scenic overlooks, a fire tower, and an 1830s grist mill.

Here are a couple of the trails at Mohican State Park:

  • Pleasant Hill Trail – An easy 0.75 trail that follows the Clear Fork Mohican River as it leads out to the dam at Pleasant Hill Lake.
  • Hemlock Gorge Trail – A difficult 2 mile trail that winds throughout the woods, is narrow in places, and leads past the river and out to a scenic covered bridge.

Biking at Mohican State Park

Bring your bicycle and take an exhilarating ride along the 25 mile Mohican Mountain Bike Trail. This trail winds past the gorge and throughout the park and the adjacent Mohican-Memorial State Forest.

Fishing at Mohican State Park

Pick up an Ohio fishing license and bring along your angling gear for a chance to catch smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white crappie, brown trout and bluegill. Fishing is allowed in park streams, Pleasant Hill Lake and Clear Fork River.

Birding at Mohican State Park

Don’t forget your binoculars and bird list! Native and migratory birds, especially northern summer birds, are easily sighted throughout Mohican State Park.

Twenty-five species of warblers have been sighted here! Keep an eye out you may see a Magnolia Warbler, Pine Warbler, Canada Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, or even a Mourning Warbler.

And, in addition to those, the Winter Wren, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Northern Parula, Least Flycatcher, Northern Waterthrush, and Dark-eyed Junco have also been sighted among the pines and hemlock forest inside the park.

You may get a glimpse of White-tailed Deer, squirrels, red foxes, skunks, opossum, salamanders, snakes, frogs and many different species of birds during your visit to Mohican State Park.

Pets are allowed in designated areas only at Mohican State Park. Pets must be well-behaved and held on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

Camping at Mohican State Park

Spend the night inside Mohican State Park. This serene park’s overnight accommodations feature campsites, cabins, a group camping area, and the beautiful Mohican Lodge & Conference Center.

The stunning Lodge, overlooking Pleasant Hill Lake, has spacious rooms with full baths, balconies, and satellite tv.

A restaurant, lounge, indoor pool, fitness room, and game room add a bit of luxury to this popular vacation destination.

For those who are looking for a more traditional camping experience – full hookup sites, non-electric sites, Sherman camping cabins or deluxe cabins are available to reserve inside the family style campground. A campground store, bathhouses with showers and flush toilets, a seasonal swimming pool, playground, volleyball and basketball courts, and a dump station are all located near the main campground area.

The deluxe cabins, nestled along Clear Fork River, have 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living room with sleeper sofa, fully equipped kitchen, fireplace, and a screened in porch.
