🏆🏆🏆🏆 River Access — Day-use recreation site on the Chena River — convenient access for fishing and paddling near Fairbanks

Chena River State Recreation Site provides easy access to the Chena River near Fairbanks — popular for grayling fishing, canoeing, and riverside picnicking. The Chena River runs through downtown Fairbanks — one of the few American cities where you can fish for Arctic grayling from a downtown bridge! The river was the site of the founding of Fairbanks in 1901, when Captain E.T. Barnette was stranded here by a steamboat and decided to set up a trading post. The Chena is a tributary of the Tanana River, which flows into the mighty Yukon — the third-longest river in North America.
