Salcha River State Recreation Site is a state recreation site at Mile 323.3 of the Richardson Highway, approximately 40 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska. The site features 6 wooded campsites plus a large gravel bar camping area, a concrete boat launch, a public-use cabin available for rent, and premier fishing for king (chinook) salmon, Arctic grayling, and northern pike on the Salcha River.
The Salcha River is one of the Interior Alaska’s most productive sport fishing rivers — accessible directly from the Richardson Highway at Mile 323.3. The concrete boat launch provides easy access for drift boats and motorboats heading upstream or downstream for king salmon (peak runs shortly after July 4th), Arctic grayling (abundant throughout the season), and northern pike (available in slower water and sloughs).
The campground offers 6 wooded sites for tents and RVs, plus a large gravel bar on the east side that’s popular for additional camping. A public-use cabin can be rented for weather-protected overnight stays. Vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water, and picnic areas complete the facilities.
