About Delta SRS
Delta State Recreation Site near Delta Junction โ the western terminus of the Alaska Highway โ provides camping along the Delta River. Delta Junction marks “Mile 0” of the Alaska Highway, the legendary 1,400-mile road built through wilderness during WWII. The nearby Delta bison herd (introduced in 1928) is one of the few free-ranging bison herds in Alaska.

Delta State Recreation Site near Delta Junction โ the official western terminus of the Alaska Highway (mile 1,422) โ provides camping on the banks of the Delta River. Delta Junction marks where the Alaska Highway, built by the Army in 1942 to defend against Japanese invasion, ends. The Delta River valley is home to the Delta bison herd โ a free-ranging herd of approximately 500 plains bison introduced in the 1920s, the only such herd in Alaska.
