Wildlife & Nature

Sisters Rock State Park along the southern Oregon coast features a distinctive pair of sea stacks and a secluded beach accessible by a short trail through coastal forest. The park\’s rocky headlands provide excellent tidepool exploring — the southern Oregon coast\’s exposure to open Pacific swells creates a highly productive intertidal zone. Purple sea urchins, giant green anemones, and aggregating anemones populate every crevice. The park sits within the Port Orford cedar range — this rare tree, found only in southwestern Oregon and northwestern California, produces extremely durable, rot-resistant wood historically prized for arrow shafts by Native Americans and for boat building. Black oystercatchers probe the rocky shore. Bald eagles nest in the Sitka spruce above the beach.
