In order to make sure everything goes above and beyond expectations for your day, there are a few common items you definitely want to have packed and ready! Then, head off to your favorite state park for a great day.

That’s right, after making sure the car is all packed and ready from reading our tried and true suggestions, you’ll be ready to get on the way and start making memories. No more getting lost without a map, or forgetting your sunglasses from this point on. This checklist is everything you need to have a successful day trip, and take it from us that it will help you have the best and most prepared time possible. Why Consider The Items On Our Day Trip Checklist
Backpack
How should you pack up everything you might need for the day? A secure backpack is completely necessary for organization, and the zipper makes sure your wallet or sunglasses wont fall out when seeing the sites, and stopping from location to location during the day.
Book
Whether you end up at a park or on a lake, it can be nice to relax by taking a moment and opening a good book! Pick out a book you’ll love, so you can enjoy it if the rest of your group is off doing their own thing. Or if you are going solo, search for the perfect spot to set up for a day of reading and take in the scene.
Camera
Sometimes you see or experience something that you want to remember forever! One fantastic way to do that is to pack a camera and be ready to capture the moment. If your phone doesn’t do the trick, try investing in a digital camera, or even a disposable camera that you can get developed!
Chapstick
Many people know that Chapstick can be a life-saver in dry conditions, but did you know that a SPF Chapstick can protect your lips when exposed to UV rays, too? Even with today’s technology people can still end up turning onto the wrong road, or maybe the GPS just randomly brought you on a weird route. Having a Gazette or Map with you can act as a second step of directions, or at least avoid a lot of confusion. Especially if you are traveling to a place without reception, having one of these to know where you are going is a must!
Hand Sanitizer
As you probably know, hand sanitizer has become a staple in households, backpacks, purses, and businesses all around the world recently. That’s why it is also included as an item to remember on your next day trip, so you can avoid all of the germs that might be waiting in shared public spaces! Although there’s many different types, so choose wisely!
Hat
An easier alternative to get some shade while hiking, adventuring, or traveling would be a plain and true baseball cap or sun hat. These are easy to carry, pack, and look great too!
ID
It is always a good idea to have some form of identification on you when visiting new places or driving in general. Whether you accidently have a tail light out and didn’t know it, or need to confirm your tickets to something, an ID is something you will want to keep with you.
Jacket
The weather can switch up pretty quickly, and you don’t want to be stuck without another layer when you need one! A jacket will be super helpful when it comes to the wind, rain, cold, and you can be prepared for all three by packing a jacket for the day.
Journal & Pen
Do you ever need to note down things that someone just mentioned to you, or simply scribble down your thoughts? If so, you should bring along a journal on your trip and start writing! Just like with a book, bringing a journal can help you relax and enjoy the day even more than you intended!
Keys & Lanyard
Losing your keys or accidentally locking them in the car is actually more common than you may think! Especially if you are making multiple stops during the day, make sure to have your keys in hand or at least on a lanyard around you neck to prevent this! Picking out a lanyard to attach to your keys will make them easier to identify if stuffed somewhere in your backpack.
Phone
Phones are so convenient when it comes to making calls, taking pictures, looking up definitions, or playing a game from the app store. Because of all this, you can contact someone in an emergency, snap images to later put in a frame, or entertain children during a car ride. Not only are these things helpful, but it can give you some peace of mind on a day trip.
Portable Charger
In today’s age, can you imagine going anywhere without your phone or some other type of electronics? The answer is typically no, which means you will need something to charge your devices with! A portable phone charger allows you to go out, and have the ability to charge your devices at the same time. Additionally, you can bring a portable charging bank right wherever you want, which limits the hassle even more!
Purse/Wallet
Want a secure place to keep important items and money all day and all over the place? Well then remember to bring along your purse or wallet! You can easily tuck these items in your backpack to be used when needed.
Snacks
Going on a day trip can be a lot of work, and in turn it can use up a lot of your energy. Whether it is granola-bars or fruit, packing some snacks is something everyone should plan to do just incase there isn’t any local grocery store near by. Food that needs to be cold can conveniently stay in your personal cooler, too!
Sports Ball
If you have some free time and want something fun to do, playing pass with a soccer ball or football is the perfect solution! This will keep kids (and probably yourself) entertained all day, and prevent the boredom that could happen on a long day. Make sure to bring one, or multiple, for all your day trip fun!
Sunglasses
Nobody likes to have the sun in their eyes all day when the weather is hot and bright! If you are hiking, reading, driving, or going for a nature walk, sunglasses will be a lifesaver and prevent your eyes from straining. Picking out good glasses that have good protection, and are built well, is definitely a good investment for all kinds of trips.
Sunscreen
One of the most important items to pack for a day trip is sunscreen! It is so vital in making sure you have an amazing trip, don’t burn too badly, and have protected skin. It is recommended that you use at least SPF 30 sunscreen whenever outside for periods of time, in order to be protected and start having a good time! Although, there are any types of sunscreen to choose from.
-Body
Body sunscreen is generally the most familiar type of sunscreen. There is lotion, spray, and bars that people can apply to be protected from the sun. There are two types, chemical and mineral sunscreen. Chemical sunscreen is the more typical body sunscreen, meaning the ingredients list includes formulas like oxybenzone. Chemical sunscreen also works by absorbing UV rays before they can harm your skin.
-Facial
Facial sunscreen is typically more gentle for your skin, hence why it is more commonly used for your face, ears, and other sensitive areas. It also comes in the form of lotion, spray, and bars, and the ingredients list may include zinc oxide. For facial sunscreen, it works instead by reflecting UV rays away from the skin.
Swimsuit
Could you imagine stopping at the lake after a long and hot day of exploring, and realize that you didn’t bring a swimsuit? Not only should you pack one first thing (and maybe include an extra) but you should remember to keep comfort and coverage in mind. Be prepared with a swimsuit so you can cool off when you want to!
Towel
Think about it, a towel is one of the very first things you are going to be running for if you do end up going for a swim. A towel can also be used just to dry your hands or clean up sudden messes in the car. So grab a nice absorbent, dirt and sand-resistant towel after cooling down to keep you dry, cozy, and ready for more!
Water
On a hot summer day, no one wants to have dehydration ruin the fun. It is seriously important to think ahead and pack water so this doesn’t happen, and so you can stay as safe as possible. If you have a large group coming with you, think about packing a case of waters to make sure everyone stays hydrated and happy!
Water bottle
In order to stay hydrated AND help the environment, consider picking out a good reusable water bottle for your day trip. This will allow you to refill the bottle, might help keep your water colder, and may have a bigger holding capacity so you don’t need to carry as many small plastic bottles!
Wet Wipes
When your hunger finally wins and you reach to grab a snack, you’ll want to make sure that your hands are clean and germ-free. Some cleaning or wet wipes as a quick fix are so important, since you never know how dirty the destination may actually be, or who was sitting at a picnic table last!
