Wildlife & Nature
Brian Booth State Park protects the Beaver Creek estuary and coastal forest — one of the most ecologically significant estuaries on the central Oregon coast. The estuary provides nursery habitat for Chinook and coho salmon, steelhead trout, and Dungeness crab. American beaver — Oregon’s state animal and the inspiration for the park’s creek name — maintain the estuary’s hydrology through their dam-building activities. Their engineering creates ponds that slow water, trap sediment, and expand wetland habitat. The park’s Ona Beach section provides direct Pacific Ocean access. Northern spotted owls inhabit the park’s mature Sitka spruce forest. Roosevelt elk herds of 20+ animals graze the meadows at dawn and dusk.

Seal Rock State Recreation Site offers some of the best tidepool exploring on the Oregon coast. Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport features a walk-through shark tunnel and seabird aviary.
