Beacon at the Tip of the Peninsula

Located at the very tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, Leelanau State Park is famous for the historic Grand Traverse Lighthouse. This 1,550-acre park offers a rugged shoreline on Lake Michigan, scenic hiking trails through Cathead Bay’s dunes, and a true “unplugged” camping experience.

💡 Lighthouse Tours: The Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum is open for tours (seasonal hours). It’s a must-visit to see 1850s maritime life firsthand.

Rustic Camping

The campground is known for its waterfront views and rustic charm. It’s a dark sky haven.

  • Sites: 52 rustic sites (no electric/showers). Many are directly on the Lake Michigan shore.
  • Mini-Cabins: 3 cabins are available with electricity, mini-fridge, and heater (sleeps 5).
  • Amenities: Vault toilets and potable water are available.
