Grand Mere SP — 985 acres along Lake Michigan near Stevensville — preserves a globally rare interdunal lake ecosystem. Three glacial lakes nestled among forested dunes create one of the most botanically diverse sites in Michigan. Piping plovers (endangered) nest on the beach. Blanding’s turtles (threatened) inhabit the lakes. Eastern box turtles — at the northern edge of their range — hide in the dune forest.
