Location & Getting There
Sam Rayburn Reservoir is located near Brookeland, Texas. The park’s coordinates are 31.0667, -94.1333.
Things to Do
Sam Rayburn Reservoir covers more than 114,000 surface acres north of Jasper, and the Corps of Engineers names largemouth bass as the main catch, with catfish, crappie and bream also plentiful. The Corps runs six campgrounds (Ebenezer, Twin Dikes, Mill Creek, San Augustine, Rayburn and Hanks Creek) and four parks with boat ramps only, and four parks have designated swimming beaches with no lifeguards. Ebenezer is the only place on the lake where horses are allowed; its 1.5 miles of trails connect to more than 25 miles in the Angelina National Forest. Deer, feral hogs, squirrels and waterfowl are hunted on the shoreline land, but rifles and pistols are prohibited, and camping is not allowed in undeveloped areas. Best Time to Visit
The seasonal loops of the Corps campgrounds open on March 1 and close after the Labor Day weekend (at Mill Creek on November 30), while some loops stay open all year: at Mill Creek sites 47 to 110, at Rayburn sites 26 to 50, and the equestrian sites at Ebenezer. The boat ramps at Twin Dikes are open year-round. Book campsites through Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777), and check the Corps status table for beach and ramp closures before you go (as of October 2026).
Visitor Tips
Sam Rayburn Reservoir is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake, not a Texas state park, so the Texas State Parks Pass does not apply. The Corps parks charge their own day-use fees: $4 at the boat ramps for non-campers and $5 per vehicle at the swim beaches. A $40 Day Use Annual Pass covers both. Campsites are booked through Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777).
